On the Epipolar Geometry in Stereo Vision
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we are interested in the calculation of the equation governing pairs of epipolar lines for unregistered images, i.e. when the image acquisition parameters are unknown or no calibration object is available. First we do a thorough analysis of the mathematics required to nd the epipolar line equations in the classical sense. Thereafter we show that for a broad class of stereo images the epipolar line equation can be obtained directly from the images without restrictive assumptions on the stereo geometry and without anyone 3D reference point. Therefore, the estimation of the epipolar line equations reduce to solve a linear optimization problem. Finally, we give an eecient algorithm to nd the epipolar line equations directly from the image data, without knowledge of the image acquisition parameters.

Optimal combination of stereo camera calibration from arbitrary stereo images
Many stereo correspondence algorithms require relative camera geometry, as the epipolar constraint is fundamental to their matching processes. We intend to build a eye/head camera rig to mount on the mobile platform COMODE to enhance the abilities of the TINA system to recover 3D geometry from its environment. Thus we will need to be able to associate camera geometry with particular head config...
متن کاملEpipolar Geometry for Humanoid Robotic Heads
Stereoscopic vision is a capability that supports the ability of robots to interact with visually complex environments. Epipolar geometry captures the projective relationship between the cameras in a stereo vision system, assisting in the reconstruction of three-dimensional information. However, a basic problem arises for robots with active vision systems whose cameras move with respect to each...
متن کاملUnifying Stereo, Motion and Object Recognition via Epipolar Geometry
In this paper I try to show that through epipolar geometry we can unify the problems of image matching in stereo, motion and object recognition, which have been treated separately. Stereo matching has been known as a 1D search problem. But matching in motion and object recognition have been known as 2D search problems. I show that by recovering epipolar geometry underlying the images, the corre...
متن کاملWeakly-Calibrated Stereo Perception for Rover Navigation
In this paper we present a vision system for autonomous navigation based on stereo perception without 3-D reconstruction. This approach uses weakly calibrated stereo images, i.e., images for which only the epipolar geometry is known. The vision system first rectifies the images, matches selected points between the two images, and then computes the relative elevation of the points relative to a ...
متن کاملCylindrical Rectication to Minimize Epipolar Distortion
We propose a new rectification method for aligning epipolar lines of a pair of stereo images taken under any camera geometry. It effectively remaps both images onto the surface of a cylinder instead of a plane, which is used in common rectification methods. For a large set of camera motions, remapping to a plane has the drawback of creating rectified images that are potentially infinitely large...
